The Train Trip 9 Experience

Hi! Making this game was fun and I thought it would be a good idea if I talked about the process of making it. Everything said here can be also found in two videos I made where I talk greek. See this devlog as a translation of them. A bad one? Maybe.

I joined the (A Game By Its Cover) jam and had to select a famicase to base the game on. The project started as a way to learn how to use blender for creating 2d assets. Having that in mind I wanted to search for a theme that was easy to model in blender and thus a famicase with a train was my choice. The famicase was made by Tabata @Tgamemaker.

Blender can be hard for someone that is new to it. After some searching I got something that looked like a train. 3D Models are used as blobs of color and the lines get added by blender with the freestyle tool. Most of the shapes are cubes that have one color. If a black line was needed inside a cube, then an extra cube that is smaller was added in front of it and Blender did the freestyle magic. That is that.

The characters were made with MS Paint. lol.

Godot was the choosen game engine. The game is simple so there is no much I have to say about the process. One thing that I liked while working on this project was the tool keyword. It made it easier to see changes inside the editor.

The end. I could say more things about the game but it starts sounding like a TED talk and I don't want that. Short and simple. Thanks for reading and playing!
